Interviu special: Ben Mono dixit

…si le dixit bine. Ce cluburi i se par tari in Europe, ce muzica ar recomanda (alta decat a lui:) si cum a ajuns sa faca Bit Hop. Intr-un interviu special Kite. Enjoy:) Si nu-l ratati sambata asta la Martin.

theKITE.ro: You have quite a different kind of sound. How did you come up with the Bit-Hop and how does it fit in the German electro/minimal music scene?

it was my idea to add another perspective to hip-hop, a genre which i havent really been invoved in before i started my album work. to achieve that i used elements that had their origin in modern electronic music aswell as in Moroders 80ies works, also the the 90ies might be involved rather by accident than on purpose – couldn’t escape my past at the end.
… also of course i wanted to show that there is also other music than minimal happening in Germany and that Germans can even be a bit groovy if they try hard enough;-)

theKITE.ro: Tell us a few good clubs for gigs in Europe.
love the Lux in Lisbon cause of its superb sounding PA system.
The Villa in Berlin cause of its amazing crowd and outstanding lineup.
Maki in Ingolstadt, a bit off but representing 100% todays vibe somewhere out there in Bavaria.
Pratersauna in Vienna cause of its Sauna style interiour and the fact that it used to be a brothel.
talking about sauna: recently closed but the Justo Bain Douche in Moscow was a steambath for Breschnew and his folks back then and got equipped with a big PA and a huge screen consinsting of piled up TVs – a classic.

theKITE.ro: A music festival you’d recommend.
Sziget in Budapest because it simply covers a wide range of interesting artists and the crowd really gives 100% support. Fusion. an old army aiport in Eastern Germany made to become a unique looking area becaue of all the old helicopter shelters which had been turned into cinemas, clubs, a massage area. organic food and a overall vibe that is more focused on the music and the idea than worshipping the artist so much.
Recently played on a little festival in the mountains of Wallis (Switzerland) called El Azra Open Ear.
surrounded by some amazing environment people went berserk – what a crazy gig.

theKITE.ro: Tell us some rather unknown bands that you listen to in your playlist these days and that you think are worth listening to.
guess i am not better informed than anyone else. in fact i sometimes think that i got too much stuck in my club backround. but here some stuff i\ve been listening to recently:
The Dead Weather – Horehound
Rodriguez – Cold Fact (not that new but he is such a great songwriter and a character)
WhoMadeWho – The Plot
last but not least may i recommend two unknown acts that will be for sure bigger soon:
Les Titz Grands (Berlin) and The High Voltage Humans (Munich).

theKITE.ro: One simple question: what’ do you want to achieve by making music? Why this and not, I don’t know, working as an accountant?:) (or other 9 to 6 regular job)
never really started this producer/dj-job, it just came after me and at some point – i surrendered and accepeted it. never dealt with anything else in my live that is asking for so much energy but giving it all back at the same time.
being selfemployed (as scary as it sometimes is) can be very rewarding although you have to come up with your own business model that none can help you with.
… sometimes being an accountant sounds tempting – so if you got any recommendation then please let me know;-)

theKITE.ro: I see you’ve been living on the road for quite a while. ‘m sure you have a lot of stories about the places you’ve been. So, what would I tell my friends if I would be touring with you for a week?
i don’t see my self as a jetsetter (in fact i became careful talking about my trips since people tend to criticise me for showing off;-). I rather focus on the country and people than just on “the scene” and the clubs. You would tell your friends that you had the best food, you had the nicest people taking care of you and that they are doing parties that are a bit off the beaten path. you would defnitely see more than just the backstage area and end up being surprised about how many new friends you made after that trip.

theKITE.ro: Ok, now let’s end on a more serious note. What would you change in the music industry? One thing that reeeally annoys you.
actually i am not really angry about how things are at the moment.
i see a big change we all have to deal with – that means more involvement on all sides and more work on the basis. record industry obviously suffers. as a conclusion the only way out of that scenario is us making sure that the average quality level of todays music should be high enough to make a statement and to stick out of the masses.
